Meet the Horses

"When you are on a great horse, you have the best seat you will ever have."

- Winston Churchill -

  • Bounce

Bounce is a super pony in every possible fashion. She is 22 years old, but don’t tell her that; she still looks, feels, and acts young! Bounce is a jack of all trades and has a lifetime of experience under her belt. As a young pony, she competed in 3-day eventing. She excelled in all three phases (dressage, stadium jumping, and cross country), but her passion is cross country. She loves to gallop in an open field, feel the wind in her mane, and soar over every jump in her path. While Bounce no longer actively competes, she still makes an appearance at local events and dressage shows. In her free time, she offers her exceptional knowledge and training to teach budding young equestrians the ropes of riding. In return, she simply asks to be rewarded with her favorite snack – Rice Krispy Treats.

  • Kayleigh

Kayleigh is the definition of a gentle giant. At 16.3h and 1700 lbs, she can be a bit intimidating at first. However, Kayleigh always aims to please. Whether you want to jump a course, mosey along at a slow walk, or gallop on the beach, she is happy to oblige. Although you can most often find her eating or napping, she actually greatly enjoys showing in 3-day eventing. Her usual lazy nature is traded for excitement and speed when it comes to cross country.

  • Envy

Envy is everyone’s best friend. She loves everyone she meets, human or horse. Still a fun-loving youngster at heart, Envy enjoys goofing off with her friends. She has a soft spot for children and will happily hold her head in their arms all day long. Envy isn’t much for exercise, but she’ll oblige to a fun session to show a beginner the ropes of dressage and jumping, as long as she’s given a sweet peppermint for her efforts.

  • Secret

Secret believes she’s a Hollywood star and exudes the personality to match. She expects nothing less than the best and envisions herself as the boss of the barn. Despite her somewhat strong personality, Secret has a heart of gold and gives nothing less than 100% in every ride. Her exuberant personality and ability to focus make her a stellar dressage schoolmaster for our Intermediate students. When she’s not heading down centerline, she’s enjoying a pampering spa day worthy of a queen.

  • Jazmine

Born in Canada, Jazmine was wild for the first 6 months of her life. This, unfortunately, caused her to miss out on some pivotal foal stepping stones that have left her unsure about some things as an adult. She may not be the most confident mare, but she creates an intense bond with her person. Jazmine has three speeds: slow, slower, and slowest. Essentially, she likes to take the scenic route and enjoy life, as long as no scary squirrels jump in her path. Despite her lazy nature, Jazmine actually greatly enjoys jumping and was the perfect teacher for this discipline - however, she is now retired and loving life as a pasture pet.

  • Skipper

Skipper is a very special horse with a unique history. Although we are unsure of her complete background, we do know that Skipper spent some time as a birthday party unicorn before undergoing training at a therapy ranch, where she was loved on by children and veterans who needed a furry friend. It takes an amazing pony to go from a birthday unicorn to a therapy animal to a lesson horse, but Skipper excels at everything she tries.

  • Rain

Rain may be tiny, but don’t let her size fool you – she has BIG personality. Her small size and gentle nature make her the perfect horse for children to learn grooming, care, and ground work with. Rain has had many callings in life, from pulling a cart, to showmanship, to being a mom – but being loved on by children is her favorite.

  • Betty

Betty has a bit of a mysterious past as she was rescued from a very scary auction in August 2021. The exact details of her situation are unknown, but we do know that she's worn many hats in her lifetime. She was an Amish cart horse and also gave kids pony rides! Betty is as sweet as sugar and is the perfect pony for timid beginners. Her easy going walk and smooth trot instantly put her rider at ease.

  • Atari

Atari also came from rough beginnings, having been pulled from a Texas auction in July 2020. She suffered from serious neglect and was obviously mistreated, but that does not stop her from continuing to spread kindness with her riders. She has a quiet, comforting demeanor that is perfect for timid beginners. Not to mention, she loves to go for slow walks around the property, enjoying life to its fullest.

  • Lady

Lady's name is the perfect description for her disposition. She is unbelievably kind and elegant, not to mention striking, with her tall stature and beautiful flea-bitten gray coloring. Lady was a very successful hunter for many years and still enjoys jumping around small courses, but, most of all, she adores being loved on by all her riders.

  • Bubbles

Bubbles is truly the jack of all trades - she has held many jobs throughout her 20 year life, from barrel racer to trail horse to even hunting partner! Now, she spends her days being the best teacher for our students. She got her name from her love of blowing bubbles in her water - as well as her beautiful fleabitten grey coat.

  • Sully

Sullivan, or Sully for short, was born June 1, 2022 to his mom, Kayleigh. It's no surprise that he took after his mom in both size and temperament. Sully meets no stranger and loves to be the center of attention. He may not even realize he's a horse - he'd rather be a lap dog! He has quickly become a barn favorite because he always brings a smile to our faces with his silly antics. Despite his black coloring, he will actually turn gray!

  • Amira

Amira is a sassy and sweet little mini mare who absolutely loves people just her size. She came to Madella Stables in Summer 2022 after her lifelong friend passed of old age. Lonely from this loss, Amira found two brand new mini friends, Rain and Marshy. Plus, she gets to spend every day being adored by all the barn guests.

  • Pip

    Pippa

Pip is likely the oldest horse in the barn, with an estimated age of 25. Like many of our horses, her backstory is a bit muddy - she was found by a horse trader, passed around from home to home, before finally ending up here. Pip is truly the most steady, reassuring mare on the farm, providing a slow, comforting start for our students. However, don't let her lazy exterior fool you - she LOVES barrel racing!

  • Girly Girl

Girly truly is the jack of all trades! She has competed in various disciplines throughout her life, from gymkhana to pleasure to even jumping. Her calm and sweet nature makes her the perfect teacher for our students, of any age. She also loves long afternoon naps in the shade trees and the juiciest apples you can find!

  • Fern

Fern joined our team in Summer 2024, after being pulled from a local auction. She was quite neglected, with overgrown hooves and scrapes all over her body. It is unbelievable that she ended up this way as Fern has it all - beauty, brains, and talent! She likely was a ranch horse in her past life, and has an abundance of practical knowledge to impart on our students. She is also the queen of pony kisses - and will gladly give them to anyone she meets!

  • Liberty

Liberty has one of the most amazing, yet tragic, backstories. This stunning Selle Francais mare was imported from France as an upper level jumper - for quite a pretty penny! She had a successful career, but when she was ready to step down from extensive work, she was surrendered to a rescue. Liberty is absolutely not ready to fully retire, and absolutely ADORES children - so her new job as a schoolmaster is the perfect fit.
